October Newsletter
Dan Chetti recently came the Central NY area. He is one of our American Baptist missionaries serving in the Middle East, Lebanon, to be specific. His homeland is India and he had originally thought he would be serving in Asia, but for many years now he and his wife have been one of our few missionaries to the Middle East. He teaches at a seminary and his wife works with “at risk” women. They support the work of the many Christian churches in that part of the world. It was wonderful to learn about their work with people, most of whom are Muslims, all of whom are eager to learn about Jesus Christ. Jesus is a significant figure in the Islam faith and Christian Bibles are respected as holy books. What I still remember from that visit was something else he said. I cannot remember the exact words, but if it was a sound byte, it would go like this:
Israel may be a chosen nation with chosen people, but God also chose every other person in the Middle East as well. God loves the Jewish people, but He also loved and died for every other person in the other nations as well.
October is our month to think about how much God does love the whole world, people from every nation, even ours. It is clear that the world is getting smaller, we are ever more dependent on other nations, and people from ever country are coming to our door step, often having learned about the Christian faith and want to see what it really looks like. This month I encourage you to pull out a map or globe, read a little more about other nations, ask someone about their homeland. It will bring the world closer, the way God does.
